Volunteering

Building a Thriving Future Together

Our mission began with supporting farmers in agriculture and horticulture — helping them grow crops and bring life to the desert.
Today, there is also a regular need for welders, electricians, and painters to assist farmers in building new greenhouses or shelters for animals.

Versatile Work in Agriculture

Our work is dynamic and varied. Each day we are involved in:
✔ Harvesting and caring for crops: tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchinis, strawberries, grapes, and herbs.
✔ Plant maintenance: pruning, tying up, and removing excess leaves.
✔ New plantings: planting seedlings for the next harvest.
✔ Weeding: depending on the season.

Flexibility

Israel is a country in the Middle East with a culture and mentality different from what we’re used to in Europe.
This requires a great deal of flexibility from all of us. Sometimes, appointments are canceled at the last moment, or the work location suddenly changes.

A large part of our work takes place in greenhouses, which protect the crops from the intense sun of the Negev Desert. We also work in open fields, depending on the season and the farmers’ needs.

But our work goes beyond agriculture. As we become more familiar with the region, we are increasingly asked to support other projects:
✔ Construction and renovation: helping to build sheep pens and storage spaces, installing fences and electricity.
✔ Community projects: assisting with renovating a kindergarten and other local initiatives.

Lema’ancha is Growing and Flourishing

What started as a pioneering mission has now become a well-established organization.
Stichting Lema’ancha is firmly rooted in Pitchat Nitzana, in the southwestern Negev Desert.

From Pioneering to Professionalizing

✔ We have built strong relationships with local government, the agricultural center, and many farmers in the region.
✔ The official registration of an Israeli foundation (Amuta) has been completed.
✔ We continue to grow and look toward new opportunities in the near future, such as:

  • Adjusting work schedules for more efficient deployment.
  • Permanent presence: aiming for a steady group of 35 volunteers at Nitzana.
  • Combination program: 5 workdays + 1 tour day led by a professional guide.
  • Supporting local tourism and promoting agricultural products.
  • Deepening our cooperation with the local community.

From Emergency Aid to Rebuilding

In recent months, our focus has shifted. Where we initially focused on providing emergency relief following October 7, 2023, we are now actively contributing to a much greater dream: making the desert bloom.

This growth requires flexibility, dedication, and vision—not only from our leadership but from every volunteer who joins us. Together, we are building a future in which the Negev Desert becomes fertile, communities are strengthened, and hope becomes a tangible reality.

Join Us, Make an Impact, and Experience the Power of Building Together!
