Help make the desert bloom – become a volunteer with Lema’ancha!

After the attack on October 7, 2023, Israeli farmers faced an unprecedented challenge. Many lost their workers, leaving crops unharvested and putting them at risk of bankruptcy. Without help, many would see their life’s work destroyed, and the nation’s food supply could be seriously endangered.
Since November 2023, the Lema’ancha Foundation has mobilized over 1,000 volunteers from eight different countries to come to Israel.

Lema’ancha was founded primarily to support these farmers. We recruit volunteers and deploy them where the need is greatest.

Nitzana – An Oasis of Education and Ecology

Deep in the vast Negev Desert near the Egyptian border lies Nitzana – a unique and inspiring place where education, ecology, and community spirit come together. This special educational project, supported by the Jewish Agency, is part of the Pitchat Nitzana region, which also includes the four moshavim: Ezuz, Kadesh Barnea, Kmehin, and Be’er Milka.

Ancient Nitzana (Nessana)
Nitzana, also known as Nessana, was founded in the 3rd century BCE by the Nabataeans. It was an important caravan city on the Incense Route, a trade route connecting Arabia with the Mediterranean.
During the Roman and Byzantine periods, the city flourished as a center of trade and agriculture.
Archaeological excavations have uncovered remains of fortifications, churches, and houses, offering a glimpse into the historical significance of Nitzana.

Volunteering in the Negev – A Unique Experience

From the moment you arrive at Ben Gurion Airport in Israel, transportation (arrival/departure on Mondays), meals, accommodation and placement with a local farmer, will be arranged for you as a volunteer:

If you decide (in consultation with Lema’ancha) to arrive or depart on a different day, you’ll need to arrange your own transportation.

Duration and Flexibility
Minimum stay is 1 week. For a first visit, the maximum stay is 3 weeks. Want to stay longer? That’s possible – but only in consultation with the team. Stays shorter than 1 week are not possible

Work on the Land
Our tasks vary throughout the year, depending on the farmers’ crops. You may be involved in harvesting vegetables and fruits like tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and grapes. As well as maintenance work such as removing old plants, weeding, and pruning grapevines and olive trees

No experience? No problem! However, good physical condition is important. We work both in open fields and greenhouses, and during summer, the Negev can get quite hot. That’s why we work at adjusted times in the summer months. Based on experience, it’s manageable – but you do need to handle the heat well.

Unity: More Than Just Work

In addition to physical labor, Lema’ancha strongly values unity. Part of our mission is to bring together believers from different backgrounds and generations, and to foster connection between the Jewish people and believers from the nations.

We believe the final prayer of the Messiah of Israel, as described in John 17:20–21, is coming closer to fulfillment:

“I do not pray for these alone (Jews), but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.”
